Week 3 in the NFL is a bit tricky for PickChamps players. There are athletes on hot streaks that are guaranteed to cool off, and there are athletes who haven’t yet reached their potential, but are poised for a big game. Here are a few of each that you can exploit in Week 3.
Gary Barnidge (TE) will have at least 3 receptions
Many players are going to read this and ask “who?” Barnidge is the best pass-catching tight end on the Cleveland Browns roster, yet has only four receptions through two games. This Pick is about the match-up, as the Browns host the Raiders this week. The Raiders are a team who in Week 1 allowed 9 catches to Tyler Eifert and followed that up by giving up five catches to Crockett Gillmore Sunday. Oakland may be a bad team against opposing tight ends, something Cleveland will note in film study this week. Put some points on it being the case.
Suggestion: 25 Points X 5.00 Offer = 100.00 Winnings
Julian Edelman (WR) will have at most 6 receptions
This might seem like an odd Pick, considering Edelman is coming off back-to-back 11-catch games. That said, Edelman had six or fewer receptions in seven of his 14 games last season. While that’s a small sample, it suggests the chances of winning here are around 50 percent, and it’s highly unlikely Tom Brady will be anywhere close to 59 passing attempts again this week. It also wouldn’t be surprising, given the Patriots penchant for changing up their game plan, if they go with a run-heavy offense this week and involve LeGarrette Blount more.
Suggestion: 25 Points X 2.99 Offer = 74.75 Winnings
Bruce Irvin (DEF) and Michael Bennett (DEF) will combine for at least 2 sacks
A good strategy is to find a defense you think is in for a big game and use the “Combined” feature to pair up two of their key pieces. Using both Irvin and Bennett rather than either on his own affords you both, in case one has a mismatch and gets at least two sacks by himself. The Seattle defense has always played better at home—opposing QB’s can’t use a hard count and the defense is always quick off the ball. Throw in Jimmy Claussen starting his first game in some time and this should be ugly for the Chicago offense.
Suggestion: 25 Points X 5.00 Offer = 125.00 Winnings
Mike Wallace (WR) will have at least one receiving touchdown
Wallace leads the Vikings receivers with 103 yards this season, a modest sum considering two games are gone. This week, Minnesota gets the Chargers at home, a team that’s given up five passing touchdowns already. Wallace narrowly missed a long touchdown against the 49ers Week 1 on a play where it appeared there should have been a pass interference call in the end zone. Having Adrian Peterson forcing more players in the box on defense should open up a big play for Wallace at some point Sunday. Our advice? Put some points on it!
Suggestion: 15 Points X 5.00 Offer = 125.00 Winnings
Golden Tate (WR) will have at least 110 receiving yards
Tate has gotten off to a little bit of a rough start and actually doesn’t even have 110 receiving yards on the season. Taking a look at last season, though, shows he had five games where he had 109 receiving yards or more. This pick might be a bit of a stretch, hence the low points, but if QB Matthew Stafford suits up this could be Tate’s opportunity for a big game.
Suggestion: 10 Points X 33.33 Offer = 333.30 Winnings
